Pioneer Indoor Track & Field Teams Open Seasons At Kent State Golden Flash Gala


Final Results

The Malone University men's and women's indoor track & field teams kicked off their respective seasons this Friday and Saturday by competing in the non-scoring Kent State University Golden Flash Gala.

A pair of student-athletes (one from each Pioneer squad) turned in outstanding efforts in their 5000-meter races to highlight the weekend for the teams. In the women's 5000-meter event, Sara Polatas crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 18:37.17 while, in the men's race, Tony Migliozzi also posted a personal best with a time of 14:33.96 to finish fourth among 37 runners in the field. Nick Meeson was next for Malone in that race, taking 13th place in a time of 15:17.56.

In other women's action, Rachel Pae posted a time of 1:23.00 in the 500 meters. In the shot put event, Lyndsey Bates and Kelsey Brobst recorded tosses of 32'4.75” and 30'2”, respectively.

In other men's competition, Juho Hietanen notched a time of 39.29 seconds in the 300 meters while Eric Barto pocketed a time of 53.12 in the 400-meter race.

In addition to his effort in the 5000-meter race, Meeson also ran the one mile race at the two-day event and clocked a time of 4:25.48 to finish fourth among 14 runners.

Joining Migliozzi and Meeson in the 5000 meters were Jared Zollars, who finished in 16:02.53, Doug French, who came in at 17:16.82, and Lucas Shroades, who posted a time of 17:33.53. In the shot put, Tom Reed recorded a toss of 44'8.75”.

The Malone teams will next compete at the Doug Raymond Invitational, hosted by Kent State University, on January 14th.
