In front of a packed and frenzied Osborne Hall crowd Tuesday night, the Malone University volleyball team collected an impressive four-set victory over visiting and local rival Walsh University by scores of 25-20, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22. With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 28-10 on the season while the Cavaliers dropped to 24-7.
Outside hitter
Megan Fisher paced the Pioneer offense as she blasted a team-high 16 kills in the match while middle hitters
Lauren Townley and
Diana Wallace followed with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Allison Kirby led the team in digs with 13 while Fisher added 12 and
Jackie Schwamberger collected 10. Schwamberger tallied 41 assists in the contest as well. Townley pocketed two service aces and three other Pioneers also had one. In addition, Fisher, the team's only senior this season, was recognized prior to the start of the match.
With the conclusion of the regular-season, Malone now sets its sights on the seven-team Ohio Independent Championships, hosted by Walsh this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 11-12). Although the official seedings will not be known until tomorrow, it appears that Malone has secured the #2 seed at the event while Walsh will be the #3 seed. Cedarville, with a four-set victory at Ursuline College this evening, has likely wrapped up the top seed by virtue of a tie-breaker (but again official seedings are not yet available).
Malone has also qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament which will be held December 1-3 in Kissimmee, Florida.
