Malone Splits Pair Of Contests At Urbana Tri-Match

Outside hitter Megan Fisher racked up a season-high 17 kills in the four-set loss to Wheeling Jesuit

The Malone University volleyball team registered a 1-1 record against a pair of NCAA Division II opponents on Saturday at Urbana University's Grimes Gymnasium.  The Pioneers opened the tri-match with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-17 victory over the host Blue Knights before falling to Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University in a neutral-site contest later in the day by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 20-25 and 18-25.  Following Saturday's split, Malone's overall record moved to 27-10.

Outside hitter Megan Fisher led the way against Urbana with 12 kills and nine digs.  Middle hitter Diana Wallace followed with eight kills.  Middle hitter Lauren Townley added seven kills while middle hitter Hannah Haver posted five kills and four digs.  Setter Jackie Schwamberger also made solid contributions with 24 assists, three service aces, three kills and six digs.

Fisher again paced the Pioneer attack in Saturday's match with Wheeling Jesuit, totaling a season-high 17 kills and 10 digs.  Townley and outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck each tallied nine kills and three blocks.  Wallace recorded six kills and four block assists.  Schwamberger racked up 41 assists, 12 digs and three kills while libero Allison Kirby and defensive specialist Katie Hasebein both notched 13 digs apiece.

Malone will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. as the squad hosts its regular-season finale against local rival Walsh University.  In this year's previous meeting (at Walsh on Sept. 29th), the Cavaliers edged the Pioneers in five sets (18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 11-15).  Buy One, Get One Free Coupons for Chipotle Restaurant will be handed out to the first 100 people in attendance on Tuesday night.  Fans can also follow the action on-line with live streaming video.  Click here to access the free video feed.
