Men's, Women's Cross Country Teams Capture Ohio Independent Championship Titles; Tony Migliozzi, Erin Bauer Win Individual Honors

The Malone University men's and women's cross country teams each captured team titles at The Ohio Independent Championship meet, hosted by Walsh University, on Saturday as both Pioneer squads won among five-team fields. In addition, the Pioneers' Tony Migliozzi and Erin Bauer each took their respective men's and women's individual titles.

The men's team posted a near-perfect score of 16 points, going 1-2-3-4-6, to easily defeat runner-up Cedarville University which had 46 points. Walsh placed third (79), Notre Dame (OH) College was fourth (119) and Urbana University rounded out the field in fifth (150).

The women's team tallied 26 points, going 1-4-6-7-8, to edge runner-up Cedarville which had 34 points. Walsh took third (84), Ursuline College was fourth (113) and Urbana came in fifth (150).

For the Malone men, Migliozzi blazed through the course in a time of 25:58.44 for the win among the 62 runners in the race while Andrew Trusty was right behind him in second in 26:08.65. Jarod Williams placed third overall in 26:09.13, Jordan McKelley grabbed the fourth spot in 26:21.66 and Nick Meeson rounded out the team scoring as he finished sixth in 26:36.64. Other varsity runners included Nick Fresenko in seventh (26:39.85) and Jared Zollars in 15th (27:05.17).

Other Pioneer men who competed included Billy Latta (24th; 27:49.31), Paul Smith (29th; 28:06.29), Matt McConnell (30th; 28:22.62), Gage Black (32nd; 28:32.51), Garret Gleckler (38th; 29:09.34) and Lucas Shroades (50th; 30:24.14).

For the Malone women, Bauer clocked a time of 19:26.81 for the victory among 59 runners in the event to defeat the runner-up from Cedarville by nearly 10 seconds. Mattison Rankin was next for Malone in fourth place overall in 19:45.18. Tynae Wilson placed sixth in 19:53.04, Katie King was seventh in 19:56.16 and Sara Polatas rounded out the team's scoring in eighth place at 20:00.59. Other varsity runners included Ashton Avery in ninth (20:05.11) and Madison Schuler in 10th (20:11.23).

Other Pioneer women who ran in the event were Tina Oprean (12th; 20:19.96). Brynn Chaskel (13th; 20:21.63), Becky Neitzel (14th; 20:22.30), Hannah Hartzler (17th; 20:39.27), Allison Black (21st; 21:14.38), Diana Furey (32nd; 22:01.89), Paige Nagy (34th; 22:12. 53) and Emily Tomei (41st; 22:35.03).

The Malone teams will next compete at the NCCAA National Championships in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday, November 12th.
