Malone vs. Davenport Box Score
The Malone University volleyball team began its weekend trip to Madonna (MI) University's Crusader Classic on Friday afternoon by splitting matches with the host Crusaders and Davenport (MI) University. The Pioneers dropped their opening contest of the day to Madonna 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 13-25 before bouncing back to top the Panthers later in the afternoon by scores of 26-24, 25-11, and 25-19. The Pioneers' overall record moved to 20-8 following Friday's matches.
Outside hitter
Megan Fisher led the way in Friday's opener against Madonna, posting 12 kills, eight digs and two solo blocks. Middle hitter
Lauren Townley followed with 10 kills while middle hitter
Hannah Haver registered seven kills, six digs, three service aces and five block assists. Setter
Jackie Schwamberger added 29 assists and eight digs. Defensive specialist
Katie Hasebein also made solid contributions with a team-high 10 digs.
Townley paced the Pioneer attack in the win over Davenport, notching 13 kills and a pair of blocks (one solo). Fisher followed closely with 12 kills and a team-best 10 digs. Haver tallied six kills and eight digs while Schwamberger recorded 30 assists, three kills, and six digs.
Malone will continue play at the Crusader Classic on Saturday. The Pioneers will face Rochester (MI) College at 11:30 a.m. before concluding the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. contest against NAIA #21 Bellevue (NE) University.
