The Malone University volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches Tuesday with a four-set home victory over Lake Erie College. The match was designated as a “Volley for the Cure” event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month in which all proceeds will be donated to the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate.
After opening with a 25-20 victory in the first set, Malone dropped the second frame to the Storm 23-25. The Pioneers bounced right back, though, in solid fashion, taking set three by a 25-15 margin before closing out the victory with a 25-14 win in the fourth and final set. With the win, Malone improved to 18-7 on the season while Lake Erie fell to 2-12 overall.
Outside hitter
Megan Fisher blasted an impressive 16 kills over the four sets while also tallying three service aces and six digs. Outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck and middle hitter
Lauren Townley also reached twin figures in the kills category with 11 and 10, respectively. Slaughterbeck added five digs while Townley added a pair of service aces and three blocks (one solo).
Middle hitter
Hannah Haver drilled nine kills and posted a team-high nine digs as well. In addition, defensive specialist
Katie Hasebein fired in three service aces and collected eight digs while middle hitter
Diana Wallace contributed five kills and three blocks (one solo).
Jackie Schwamberger fueled the offensive cause by tossing up 47 assists in the match.
Malone will be back in action next Tuesday at Cedarville University (14-10) in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
