The Malone University women's soccer team fell at home to Davenport (MI) University on Wednesday afternoon by a final tally of 2-0. The Panthers scored both of their goals in the first seven minutes of the match and then clamped down on the defensive end over the remainder of the game to secure the shutout victory. The Pioneers dropped to 2-1-0 with the defeat while Davenport improved to 3-0-1.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the sixth minute, taking a 1-0 advantage with a header off a corner kick. Davenport then netted its second goal of the match just over a minute later. Malone fought hard the rest of the way but was unable to breakthrough with a score of its own. The visitors held a 7-5 advantage in total shots on goal as Pioneer keeper
Angie Nutial made five saves.
Malone is idle over the weekend and will return to action on Tuesday (9/14) as it travels to Cedarville University for its American Mideast Conference opener against the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. The Cedarville Sports Information Department will provide live stats during the match.
