Pioneers Pocket 3-0 Win At Point Park

Midfielder Susanna Jonkka registered a goal and an assist in the shutout victory

The Malone University women's soccer team notched a 3-0 American Mideast Conference victory on the road Tuesday evening against Point Park (PA) University. The visitors held a 1-0 lead at halftime and then tacked on two more scores in the second period to cement the win. Malone improved to 4-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the AMC with the shutout victory while PPU dropped to 1-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.

Forward Jasmine Evans got Malone on the scoreboard in the early going as she notched her team-leading fourth goal of the season 14 minutes into the match. The visitors made it 2-0 in the 57th minute of play as midfielder Katie Heckman scored off an assist from fellow midfielder Susanna Jonkka. Malone then put the contest away 15 minutes later when Jonkka netted her second goal of the year.

Malone held a 12-6 advantage in total shots on goal in the match as keepers Angie Nutial and Ashley Kuhn each made three saves in shared time in front of the net.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Thursday as the squad travels to Steubenville, Ohio for a 3:00 p.m. match against NCAA Division III Franciscan University.
