Malone Downs Houghton In Straight Sets To Improve To 18-1 Overall

The Malone University volleyball team rolled past Houghton (NY) College in American Mideast Conference play at Osborne Hall on Friday evening. The Pioneers, ranked 23rd in the most recent NAIA National Poll, topped the Highlanders by a 25-16 margin in the opening set before sealing the match by winning the final two frames by identical scores of 25-12. With the convincing victory, Malone improved to 18-1 overall and 2-0 in the AMC while Houghton dropped to 6-8 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Outside hitter Jennifer Gahagan paced the Pioneers with 14 kills, six digs and one solo block in Friday's contest. Middle hitter Lauren Townley followed with eight kills and two blocks (one solo) while fellow middle hitter Hannah Haver tallied six kills. Right-side hitter Megan Fisher also posted six kills with six digs. Other contributors included outside hitter Lori Gale with five kills and a season-high five aces and setter Jackie Schwamberger with 33 assists and four digs.

The Pioneers will host another AMC match on Saturday morning as the squad takes on Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College at 11:00 a.m. The Raiders entered Friday night's match at Notre Dame (OH) College with a 13-3 overall mark (0-0 AMC).
