Roberts Wesleyan Tops Malone With Three Second-Half Goals

Kelvin Aquino Scored His Third Goal Of The Week But It Was Not Enough To Top The Raiders On Saturday

Box Score

The Malone University men's soccer team dropped its American Mideast Conference opener at home to Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. Midfielder Kelvin Aquino gave the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season but the Raiders fought back to tie the match in the 60th minute by knocking in a ball that had squirted away from Malone keeper Felipe Monteiro. Roberts Wesleyan struck again just nine minutes later to take a 2-1 lead and then put the match away with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute. The Pioneers dropped to 2-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the AMC with the loss while the Raiders improved to 4-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.

RWC held a 5-2 advantage in total shots on goal in the match as Monteiro made two saves.

Malone will look to bounce back on Wednesday as the squad hosts the University of Charleston (WV), a member of NCAA Division II, in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
