The Malone University women's basketball team began American Mideast Conference play on Tuesday evening with an 80-42 loss on the road against NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville University. The Pioneers trailed by just seven at the half but were then outscored by a convincing 44-13 margin in the second stanza. The Yellow Jackets clamped down on the defensive end of the floor over the final 20 minutes, coming up with nine steals while allowing Malone to convert on just six of its 22 (27.3%) second-half field goals. The loss dropped the Pioneers' record to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the AMC while Cedarville improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
In addition to their suffocating defense, the Yellow Jackets also had their offense clicking on all cylinders in the final period, connecting on 65% (19 of 29) of their shot attempts after intermission. On the evening, Cedarville held a 32-22 advantage in total rebounds and made 15 steals. Malone committed 24 total turnovers while shooting 37.2% (16 of 43) from the floor, 20% (three of 15) from beyond the arc and 87.5% (seven of eight) from the foul line. The Yellow Jackets countered by making 35 of 60 (58.3%) field-goal attempts, five of 14 (35.7%) three-pointers and five of six (83.3%) free throws.

Alison Schloz came off the bench to contribute four points and three boards.
Guard Rachel Hurley led the way for Cedarville with 20 points on eight of 10 shooting from the field, including four-of-five accuracy from three-point range. Forward Deborah Chandler followed with 16 points while center Aubrey Siemon notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
