Pioneers Shut Out Carlow, 1-0

Midfielder Katie Heckman pocketed the lone goal of the match in the 57th minute

Box Score

The Malone University women's soccer team registered a 1-0 victory on the road Saturday afternoon in an American Mideast Conference match against Carlow (PA) University as Pioneer midfielder Katie Heckman netted the game-winner in the 57th minute off a corner kick by midfielder Alyssa Foldesy. This lone goal proved to be all the offense keeper Ashley Kuhn and the rest of the Malone defense would need as the Pioneers went on to record their fifth shutout of the year. Malone improved to 7-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the AMC with the triumph while Carlow dropped to 3-10-1 overall and 1-8-0 in the conference.

The Pioneers held an 8-2 advantage in total shots on goal in the match as Kuhn stopped both shots she faced to record her first shutout of the year.

Malone will be back in action on Tuesday evening with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference match at Penn State Beaver, a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) member located in Monaca, Pennsylvania. The Pioneers will then conclude their regular-season schedule next Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. AMC match against Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.

Playoff Picture: The top five finishers in the AMC regular-season standings will qualify for the conference's postseason tournament. Despite the Pioneers' victory over Carlow, Malone was eliminated from AMC postseason contention on Saturday due to the results of other matches around the conference.

The Pioneers could still potentially participate in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) playoffs if they finish the year with a record of .500 or better. Information regarding any possible NCCAA postseason participation will be announced once it is available.
