The Malone University volleyball team registered a hard-fought, five-set victory on the road over NCAA Division II Tiffin University on Tuesday evening. After dropping the first set of the night 25-12, the Pioneers fought back to take frames two and three by scores of 25-23 and 25-20. The Dragons evened the match by topping Malone 25-23 in the fourth set before the Pioneers secured the non-conference triumph by outlasting Tiffin 15-9 in the decisive fifth set. Malone had dropped a five-set match at home to the Dragons on September 29th, but the squad was able avenge the defeat Tuesday evening, improving its overall record to 26-5. Tiffin, meanwhile, fell to 10-10.
Pioneer outside hitter
Jennifer Gahagan blasted a team-high 21 kills in the victory to go with 12 digs and four blocks (one solo). Middle hitter
Lauren Townley followed with 15 kills. Fellow middle hitter
Hannah Haver added 10 kills and six blocks (three solo). Outside hitter
Lori Gale posted eight kills with 21 digs and three service aces. Right-side hitter
Megan Fisher also contributed eight kills while setter
Jackie Schwamberger handed out 56 assists and scooped up 13 digs.
Malone will return to American Mideast Conference play on Thursday when it hosts a 7:00 p.m. match against Point Park (PA) University. Fans that cannot make it to Osborne Hall can follow the action live on-line with
