Box Score
The Malone University women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 American Mideast Conference victory at home over Daemen (NY) College on Tuesday afternoon. Pioneer midfielder
Amanda Hanlon registered what turned out to be the game-winning goal just over a minute into the second period as she bounced a shot past the Wildcat goal keeper off a pass from midfielder
Susanna Jonkka. Malone keeper
Angie Nutial and the rest of the Pioneer defense then made this one-goal advantage stand up over the final 44 minutes. The victory improved Malone's record to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the AMC while Daemen dropped to 9-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference.
Pioneer forward
Jasmine Evans gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead just three and a half minutes into the match after she tracked down a loose ball in front of the net and fired a shot to the far post for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Wildcat forward Jenelle Masi then evened things up a little over 15 minutes later after finding the back of the net off a nice pass from teammate Samantha Engel. However, just like in the first half, Malone wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Hanlon netted her first goal of the year just 64 seconds into the second period.
The Pioneers held an 11-9 advantage in total shots on goal over the course of the afternoon as Nutial made eight saves.
Malone will be back in action on Saturday when the squad hosts a 1:00 p.m. AMC match against Houghton (NY) College.
