The Malone University women’s basketball team announced the addition of Madison Cloonan as an assistant coach in May of 2025.
“I’m excited to join the Malone University women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach,” Cloonan said. “Having played against Malone for four years, I got a firsthand look at the team’s culture and what the program is all about. I am incredibly excited to now be joining it as part of the coaching staff. I look forward to contributing to the team's success and helping foster a positive, hardworking environment. I can’t wait to get started and support the growth and development of the team!”
Previously, Cloonan was a key player at Nova Southeastern University, where she helped lead her team to the NCAA Division II South Regional Final and earn a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 national ranking. Cloonan played four seasons at Ursuline College, where she tallied over 1,000 points and rebounds in her career. She also earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) All-Defensive Team honors during her time there.
In addition to her playing experience, Cloonan has spent three years coaching high school girl’s basketball and working with athletes through The National Basketball Academy. These opportunities have allowed her to develop her coaching style and work with athletes at various skill levels.
“We are extremely excited with the addition of Madison to our coaching staff,” Ickes said. “Madison was a hard-nosed, talented player and will bring familiarity with the G-MAC and recruiting in the state of Ohio. I am thrilled to have her join our program; she will make us better from day one with her passion and knowledge of the sport.”
Cloonan is from Cleveland, Ohio and graduated with her MBA from Nova Southeastern University and her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Sport Management from Ursuline in 2024.
