Mark McClure

Mark McClure was named the Community Outreach Director in August of 2022 after leading Malone's track & field program for 14 seasons.

He is responsible for networking with Canton City and Stark County youth to provide leadership development and athletic programming.

During his time with the track & field program, school records were broke in 36 different indoor events and 23 different outdoor events.

In 2016-17, Malone's first year of competition in the G-MAC, the Pioneer men won the conference’s Indoor Championship while the women placed third.  Both squads then registered runner-up finishes at the Great Midwest Outdoor Championships. McClure was honored as the Great Midwest Men's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in 2017 after guiding the Pioneers to their first indoor conference title.

A total of nine NCAA First or Second Team All-America awards were earned by Pioneer track & field student-athletes once the University transitioned to full Division II membership in the summer of 2013, highlighted by Duke Taylor’s 2017 Individual National Title in the discus.

The Pioneers’ over 50-year tradition of success in track and field continued to flourish during McClure’s tenure at the helm of the program.  Prior to the Malone athletic department’s departure from the NAIA and move to NCAA Division II, the Pioneer men registered three Top 10 finishes at NAIA National Meets (fifth-place Indoor finish in 09-10, seventh-place indoor finish in 08-09, sixth-place outdoor finish in 08-09) in addition to capturing the 2010 NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Outdoor National Crown.  The Pioneer women also thrived under McClure’s guidance, claiming the 2009 NCCAA Outdoor National Championship and three consecutive conference titles.

A 1986 Green High School graduate, McClure was the Ohio High School runner-up in the high jump and a member of Green’s 1986 Division I State Track and Field Championship Team.  He graduated from Malone in 1991 with a degree in Physical Education after a stellar collegiate track career.  McClure won an NCCAA National Championship in the high jump and also currently holds the Malone decathlon record.

McClure received a master’s degree in Physical Education (Athletic Administration) from Ohio University in 1992. Before taking over the reins of the Pioneer track & field program, he served as the head track & field and cross country coach at John Carroll University.  He led his 2006 JCU women’s track & field team to a 12th-place finish at the NCCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships and coached a total of 13 All-Americans during his tenure at the school.  Prior to his stint at JCU, McClure served for nine years (1994-2003) as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Miami University.  He has also been an assistant coach at the University of Akron (1993-94), Emory (GA) University (1992-93) and Ohio University (1991-92).

McClure was inducted into the Malone Athletics Hall of Fame in January of 2007.  He and his wife, Bonnie, a former state champion in the 800 meters, and their five children, Collin, Conner, Caden, Caleb  and Caylie, reside in Green.
