Football coaching veteran Steve Wilt joins the Malone staff in 2010 and will work with the Pioneer safeties and special teams unit. Steve has over 40 years of coaching experience to his credit, having held head coaching positions at Wingate University, a NCAA Division II school in Wingate, North Carolina, and at Taylor University, a fellow member of the MSFA Mideast League located in Upland, Indiana. While at Taylor, he led the Trojans to back-to-back NAIA National Playoff Appearances with an 8-3 record in 1998 and a 10-2 record in 1999.

In addition to his time spent at Wingate and Taylor, Steve has also served as the head coach at Handley High School in Winchester, Virginia, and held assistant coaching positions at Shippensburg State University, a NCAA Division II school in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, James Madison University, a NCAA Division 1-AA member in Harrisionburg, Virginia, and, most recently, at Olivet Nazarene University, a current MSFA Mideast League member located in Bourbonnais, IL.

Steve has been a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) since 1969 and spent 18 years as an advisor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Biology from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia in 1966 and then graduated from West Virginia University in 1969 with a master’s degree in Physical Education.

Steve and his wife, Diane, have two daughters, Mindi and Brittany, and one son, Chad, who is currently the defensive line coach at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. Steve and Diane are also proud grandparents to three grandsons.
