NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For the first time in program history, the Malone University STUNT team competed at the College STUNT National Championships. The Pioneers were defeated in their game on Thursday 20-12 against Purdue University Northwest. Malone is now 16-9 overall while the Pride move on with a record of 14-8.
Â
A 1-0 win in routine two for the Pioneers allowed them to keep things close at 4-3 Purdue Northwest after partner stunts. All four rounds of pyramids and tosses were tight. Each of the scores were 2-1, with Malone taking routine five in the final round. The halftime score was 11-8 in favor of the Pride.
Â
Purdue Northwest began to pull away with a strong second half. The Pride controlled the third quarter of jumps and tumbling and led 16-10. The Pioneers drew a tie in routine three, but Purdue Northwest won the quarter in total, 5-2.
Â
The lead increased to eight at the end of team routine one after the Pride were victorious 4-2. They had possession and called routine eight, which helped to solidify the mercy rule with just six points available after Malone was unable to score to extend the contest.
Â
The Pioneers compete in an elimination game against Maryville University on Friday, April 24 beginning at 11:15 A.M. CST.
