Malone Swimming & Diving Sweeps at Oberlin

The Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams each posted decisive victories during a dual meet against Oberlin Friday night. The Pioneer women tallied a 159-55 triumph while the men outscored their opponents 144-81.
 
The women won 10 of the 11 swimming events while the men won 10 of 11 races and the 1-meter diving event.
 
Highlights:
 
50 Free
Denise Quentin dominated by nearly three seconds, finishing the women's race in a time of 24.53. Samuel Rigdon finished in second place in the men's race with a time of 23.20.
 
100 Free
Caleb Cosentino captured the men's event with a time of 50.90. Nicole Kenny was Malone's top finisher in the women's race, placing second in 58.70
 
200 Free
Junior Kaila Butterworth (2:04.87) won by nearly seven seconds on the women's side while Brice Dixon (1:52.23) claimed first place in the men's event.
 
500 Free
Senior distance ace Nick Wertz lapped the field by over 23 seconds, posting a winning time of 5:01.17. Denise Quentin, who would have finished second in the men's heat, claimed the women's event in 5:20.33 – almost 31 seconds clear of second place.
 
1000 Free
Nick Wertz made it a daily double, posting a winning time of 10:30.14 while Rhett Sanford was second in 10:40.19. Stephany Aeling (11:42.65) and Karly Bruce (11:58.50) went 1-2 in the women's race.
 
100 Back
Markus Brunzel (1:01.93) was victorious in the men's race and Abby Reynolds (1:06.56) won the women's race over teammate Brittany Sheets (1:07.48).
 
100 Fly
Kaila Butterworth earned win number two on the night with a winning time of 1:03.59. Brice Dixon was the men's winner, touching the wall in 54.66.
 
100 Breast
Denise Quentin claimed one of three victories in the meet, swimming to a winning time of 1:09.93. Ezra Ferguson (1:02.20) and Fabian Loewe (1:02.57) placed first and second in the one of the closest finishes of the night.
 
200 Individual Medley
Caleb Cosentino (2:05.88) and Abby Reynolds (2:21.90) each gave the Pioneers first-place points with their second race wins.
 
200 Medley Relay
The men's relay team of Dixon, Loewe, Ferguson and Ridgon finished with a winning time of 1:42.55. The women's team of Sheets, Butterworth, Delaney Ferrell, and Kenny placed first in 1:57.35.
 
200 Free Relay
The Pioneer women went 1-2-3 in the event; Butterworth, Jessica Slater, Reynolds, and Rebecca Arn posted the 1:48.03 winning time. The team of Justyn Morgan, Cosentino, Brunzel, and Rigdon claimed the men's race in 1:32.71.
 
1-Meter Diving
Corey Phillips earned a score of 165.85, Emily Schmidt recorded 95.40
