Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Finish Fifth, Ninth At Wooster Invite

Tim Collet registered an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" time after capturing first-place in the 200 yard breaststroke.

The Malone University swimming & diving teams concluded their third and final day of the College of Wooster Invite with two NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" times and two school records being broken.   

The men's team finished 5th out of 9 teams, to tally a total of 853.5 points, while the women's team finished 9th out of 11 teams and collected 369 points. The men's and women's teams for Case Western Reserve University tallied 1,775.5 and 1,563 points, respectively, to take first-place at the event.

During the prelims, Brittany McCue shattered the school record in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing with a 2:17.26 time. In the finals, she took a 19th place finish (2:18.42).

Marta Jankowska broke yet another record (she smashed the 100 yard butterfly during yesterday's race) in the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:04.19 mark during the prelims. She took home the top prize in the finals with a winning time of 2:04.24. With her time, she collected an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" time.  

Carolin Friedrich notched a sixth-place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle (18:20.66). With that mark, she is now third all-time at Malone in that event.   

For the men, Tim Collet registered an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" time after capturing first-place in the 200 yard breaststroke, with a winning time of 2:00.18. He is now second all-time at Malone in that event.

Chris Eckard placed second, while Cory Boogaart placed fifth in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing with 46.13 and 47.34 times, respectively.

Zach Misak place sixth in the 200 yard backstroke during the prelims (1:56.62) and improved his time in the final (1:54.35) to tally a fifth-place finish.

Hector Gonzalez took a fifth-place spot in the 200 yard butterfly of the A final (1:54.84), after posting a 1:54.24 time in the prelims, while, Florian Zellin took 9th place in the B final with a 1:54.17 time.

For the 400 yard freestyle relay, Misak, Boogaart, Gonzalez, and Eckard came in second place by 0.4 seconds (3:05.46). Eckard swam the last 100 yards of the relay in 45.11 seconds, which was one second quicker then what he swam individually in the 400 yard freestyle (46.13) this morning.

Coming Up:
The Malone teams will next compete on January 9th in their first GLIAC meet of the season at Ashland University. Urbana College will also be participating in the meet at Ashland.
