Day One RecapThe Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams set two school records on the second day of competition at The College of Wooster Invitational on Friday.
After the second day of competition, the Malone men have tallied 623.5 points and still hold the fifth-place spot among nine teams, while the Malone women have tallied 255 points and are currently in ninth place among 11 teams. Both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams for Case Western Reserve University hold the first-place spot.
Marta Jankowska registered an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying "B cut" time after she smashed the school record in the 100 yard butterfly during the prelims, posting a 56.61 mark (old record was her own at 57.32 last season at Wooster). In the A final of the event, she captured the title, posting a winning time of 56.75. With her prelim and final times, she is now first and second on Malone's all-time list in that event.
Carolin Friedrich placed 11
th during the 200 yard freestyle prelims, finishing with a 2:00.43 time and placed 12
th in the B final with a 1:59.77 mark.
Christian Neumann finished 15
th in the 400 yard individual medley prelims (5:03.90) and improved her time in the B final (5:00.14), placing 13
th overall.Â
Sarah Mally, Christian Neumann,
Quincy Livchak, and Friedrich finished 15
th in the 800 yard freestyle with a 8:27.29 mark, which is now the third best time in Malone history.
On the men's side,
Florian Zellin,
Hector Gonzalez, and
Tim Collet placed second (50.12 time), eighth (51.75 time), and ninth (51.89 time), respectively, during the 100 yard butterfly prelims.
During the 100 yard butterfly A final, Zellin broke the school record and placed second overall with a 49.94 time. Gonzalez placed-eighth (51.88) in the A final, while Collet took a ninth-place finish (51.75) in the B final. Â Â Â
Zachary Misak, Collet, Zellin, and
Cory Boogaart captured first-place in the 200 yard medley relay, in a winning time of 1:33.07. Their time of 1:33.07 is now the fifth best in Malone history.
Gonzalez,
Chris Eckard, Collet, and Boogaart, also posted a first-place victory in the 800 yard freestyle relay, with a 6:49.56 mark, which is now the second fastest time in Malone history.
The victories kept coming for Eckard, as he notched a first-place victory in the A final of the 200 yard freestyle (1:40.55), after posting a 1:40.61 time in the prelims.
Cory Boogaart also competed in the 200 yard freestyle and tallied a fourth-place finish (1:41.92), after placing third in the prelims (1:42.42).
Collet collected a first-place finish in the A final of the 100 yard breaststroke (56.50), after posting a 56.67 time during the prelims.
Misak placed second in the A final of the 100 yard backstroke (50.90).
The third and final day of competition at the Wooster Invitational will be held on Saturday, December 5th with prelims set for 10:00 a.m. and the finals scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
