ResultsThe Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams came out victorious on Saturday afternoon, as both teams defeated Alderson Broaddus University (WV).
"It's been a grueling two days," said Malone head coach
Russ Hunt. "With the meet yesterday, and a challenging workout under their belts this morning, I would say we rose to the challenge this afternoon."
Malone indeed rose to the challenge, as the Pioneer men swept past Alderson Broaddus 117-78, while the Pioneer women prevailed 95-61. The men collected nine first-place finishes, while the women tallied six.
For the men, eight individuals and two relays notched first-place finishes.
Florian Zellin registered two wins on the afternoon in the 200 yard individual medley and in the 100 yard backstroke with 2:00.81 and 56.80 times respectively. Other individual first-place finishers were: Evan Dickens in the 50-yard freestyle (23.27),
Chris Eckard in the 100 yard butterfly (54.73), Zach Misak in the 100 yard freestyle (48.26),
Tim Collet in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:01.10), and
Dan Furno in the 1 meter diving with a 84.05 score. For the relays, the 200 yard medley relay team A which included
Cory Boogaart, Misak, Zellin, and Dickes finished with a 1:41.52 time, while the 400 yard freestyle relay team consisted of,
Hector Gonzalez, Misak, Boogaart, and Eckard finished with a 3:20.03 time.
For the women, four individuals and two relays captured first-place finishes. Freshman
Christina Neumann continued to impress as she captured two wins for the Pioneers in the 200 yard individual medley (2:24.47) and in the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.26), while
Sarah Mally captured the 200 yard freestyle (2:10.34), and
Brittany McCue notched the win in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.05). For the relays, the 200 yard medley unit of McCue,
Marta Jankowska,
Quincy Livchak, and
Christina Yu finished with a 1:59.45 time, while the 400 yard freestyle relay team of
Olivia Bently,
Kaylor Schuttinger,
Carolin Friedrich, and Jankowska tallied a 3:57.21 finish.
Incredibley, Jankowska competed in all of the events Saturday afternoon.
There were six second-place finishes on the day, four on the women's side and two on the men's side. For the women individually, McCue finished runner-up in the 50 yard freestyle (27.69), Schuttinger tallied a second-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.52),
Karleigh Stichert was second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:22.89) and the 200 yard medley relay team, which consisted of Schuttinger, Mally,
Audrey Miller, and Friedrich, also recorded a second-place finish with a 2:06.29 time. For the men, Collet placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.64) and Boogaart collected a second-place showing in the 200 yard individual medley (2:02.68).

"A stretch like the one we've been on over the last few days is tremendous rehearsal and prep for a Championship environment."
The Malone teams will next compete in a meet at Allegheny College (PA), a competition that also includes Oberlin College, on November 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
