Hitchcock, a 1973 Malone graduate (B.A. in Bible Literature), was a four-year baseball letterman at the college. An All-County pitcher from Pymatuning Valley High School, he posted a high school record of 28-9 before coming to Malone. As a freshman at Malone, he posted the fourth-best season ERA (1.17) at the college and, by the end of his Pioneer career, had produced three of the top-ten strikeout-to-walk ratios in school history. His overall collegiate record was an impressive 26-9 (.743) with his best record having been attained during his sophomore season at 7-1 with a 1.50 ERA. In addition, in his first year after graduation, he traveled with Sports Ambassadors to South America.

Hitchcock, who is a driving instructor and a farmer, and his wife, Louise, reside in Andover, Ohio and have three grown children.
