Baranek, a 1978 graduate of Malone, was named to both the All MOC and NAIA District 22 teams in golf from 1976-1978. He was a four-year captain for the team and was also the team's MVP in two of those seasons. He was also the medalist in both the MOC and District 22 tournaments in 1978. He finished his career with a 70-19-2 record and a 76.8 average.

Baranek is currently a PGA Golf Professional and he and his wife, Lynn, reside in Sarasota, Florida.
