David Gramlich, a 2005 Malone graduate (Education), was a four-year letterman on the Pioneer men's cross country and track & field teams. A 2000 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, Gramlich earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Malone in 2010.
Over the span of his Pioneer career, Gramlich earned an incredible total of 10 NAIA All-America Awards, highlighted by an individual National Championship in the men's marathon at the 2005 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In cross country, Gramlich and his teammates finished in the Top 5 at the NAIA National Championship Meet in all four of his years, placing as high as second as a team in 2001. The Pioneers also captured three NCCAA Cross Country National Titles and four AMC Championships during his career. Individually, Gramlich garnered three NAIA Cross Country All-America awards after registering three Top 15 finishes at the NAIA National Meet, including an 11th-place showing in 2001, a 14th-place finish in 2002 and another 11th-place finish in 2003. In addition, Gramlich was a four-time NCCAA Cross Country All-American and a two-time individual AMC Champion.
In track and field, he collected seven NAIA All-America accolades, starting in 2003 with a sixth-place finish in the indoor 5000 meters and a fifth-place showing in the outdoor 10,000 meters. He posted two NAIA All-America performances in 2004, placing fourth in both the indoor 5000 meters and the outdoor marathon. He then wrapped up his remarkable collegiate track & field career with three NAIA All-America Awards in 2005, including a sixth-place finish in the indoor 5000, a fourth-place finish in the outdoor 10,000 meters and his national championship in the marathon. On top of his NAIA accolades, Gramlich also collected multiple NCCAA Track & Field All-America awards and helped Malone capture the 2002 AMC Outdoor Team Championship.
Gramlich, a former Malone track & field and cross country assistant coach, currently serves as an assistant track and field coach and the head women's cross country coach at the University of Akron. He and his wife, Leta (Huntington), a 2004 Malone graduate who competed for the Pioneer women's soccer and track & field programs, and their two children, Elia (5) and Beckham (3), reside in North Canton.
