Jake Sears begins his first year on the Malone coaching staff in 2017.
Sears will coach Malone’s wide receivers after most recently coaching the same position group at Urbana University. He helped the Blue Knight receiving unit rack up 2,521 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2016. While at Urbana, Sears mentored All-Conference performer Trevon Saunders, who ended 2016 ranked sixth among NCAA Division II wide outs with an impressive total of 15 TD’s.
Prior to his time at Urbana, Sears served as the Quarterbacks Coach and Junior Varsity Offensive Coordinator at Linden McKinley High School in Columbus, Ohio. His coaching resume also includes time with the Marion Blue Racers, a professional arena football team, and at Saint Charles Preparatory School in Columbus.
“We are really excited to bring Jake on board,” commented head coach Fred Thomas. “Jake is an Ohio guy with connections to Ohio high school football. He has already coached and recruited at this level, which is really important for us to continue growing. It is great to add someone who has been successful at the Division II level.”
Sears is a 2014 graduate of Capital University where he competed on the Crusader football team and earned a bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Management. A native of Miamisburg, Ohio, Sears earned All-Conference honors as a quarterback for the Miamisburg High School football team while also competing in baseball and track & field.
