Deshawn Gilbert 2017 Headshot

Deshawn Gilbert

Deshawn Gilbert begins his second year on the Malone coaching staff in 2017. Gilbert, who will work primarily with the cornerbacks, was a four-year starter at the position for Siena Heights University from 2012-16.

The Detroit, Michigan native was named an NAIA All-American and the Mid-States Football Association’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 after racking up six interceptions, nine pass break-ups and 42.5 tackles.  Gilbert ended his career as the Saints’ all-time leader in both interceptions and pass break-ups.

After graduating from SHU in 2016 with a degree in Business Administration, Gilbert completed a summer internship at NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan University where he contributed in football operations, facility maintenance and video coordination.

“We are excited to have Deshawn on our staff,” said head coach Fred Thomas.  “He was an outstanding player and a great young man who has already contributed a lot to our secondary where we have a lot of young players.  Deshawn will recruit in Summit County and parts of Michigan.”

Gilbert will pursue a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Malone.
