At the NCAA Div. II Challenge at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio last Saturday, Johnnie Legrair, a senior from Copley, Ohio (Copley H.S.), paced the Malone men’s indoor track & field team to a runner-up team finish among 21 teams with two individual first-place finishes on the day while scoring a meet-best 23 points.
He grabbed victory in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.19 seconds after cruising to the seventh-fastest time (8.45) in the prelims, among 28 competitors. In the long jump, he took the victory among 25 jumpers with a leap of 23’0.75”. Legrair's marks in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump were both NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Legrair also qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash and placed sixth in a time of 7.07 seconds. In the prelims of that event, he qualified with the ninth-fastest time among 50 competitors at 7.14 seconds
