Malone University Athletics

Junior Lauren Townley, from the Malone University volleyball team, has been named “Athlete of the Week” after leading the Pioneers to the NCCAA East Region title over the weekend.

Malone went 4-0 in the competition, defeating Roberts Wesleyan College in the tournament final in four sets to earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Florida from Nov. 29- Dec. 1. The Pioneers lost only one set in their four tournament matches.

Townley led Malone in kills (37) and service aces (5) and finished second with nine blocks over the four-game span. She was particularly impressive in the championship match, racking up a team-high 15 kills to go along with four blocks and two aces.
