Sophomore running back Malik Felton has been named Malone University Athlete of the Week for his impressive display against Tiffin University on Saturday.
Felton, from Fullerton, California (Servite H.S.), led the Pioneers to a thrilling 33-27 double-overtime victory over the Dragons by rushing for a career-high 130 yards and three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving).
Felton’s 130 yards came on 22 carries, giving him an average of 5.9 yards per attempt. He also snagged two passes for 28 yards.
His first rushing touchdown came from two yards out in the first quarter, giving Malone a 10-7 advantage. Felton then snagged a 16-yard TD pass near the start of the fourth stanza to put the Pioneers in front 24-14.
Felton’s third score came on Malone’s second overtime possession (on what turned out to be the final play of the game) as his 12-yard dash up the middle sent a crowd of 2200 to its feet and gave the Malone football program its first-ever GLIAC win.
