At the non-scoring Youngstown State University Invitational last Friday, Smith, a sophomore from Massillon, Ohio (Perry H.S.), captured a victory in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.32 seconds after posting the same time in the prelims (top prelim time as well) among 21 contestants. Smith also blazed to a second-place finish, among 40 entrants, in the 60-meter dash prelims in a time of 7.04 seconds and then, in the finals, recorded a fourth-place finish among 16 finalists in 7:07 seconds.
Among four Malone runners in the 200 meters, Smith posted a time of 23.32 to lead the way for the Pioneers in that event as well.
