Smith, a junior from Uniontown, Ohio (Lake H.S.), turned in an outstanding performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase at North Central College's Keeler Invitational on Friday.

Smith smashed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships after placing fifth among 34 competitors with a time of 10:46.86. 

The strong showing ranks as the second-fastest 3000-meter steeplechase time in Pioneer history and was a 24-second improvement on Smith's previous personal best.
