Hurford, a sophomore pitcher from Sebring, Ohio, made two impressive appearances on the mound last week to help the Pioneers tally a 5-1 record.Â
In a 5-3 win over Walsh on Wednesday, Hurford allowed just one earned run while striking out five over six strong innings.
The righthander was back on the mound against Tiffin on Saturday, tossing six scoreless relief innings in the Pioneers' 14-inning battle with the Dragons. Working on just two days rest, Hurford struck out five more, keeping the game deadlocked at 3-3 until Malone won it in the bottom of the 14th.
In total, he went 1-0 in 12 innings while striking out 10 and sporting a 0.75 ERA.
