Taylor, a junior from East Canton, Ohio (East Canton H.S.), broke the Pioneer school record in the hammer throw competition at the Wake Forest University Open on Friday. 

Taylor placed fifth among a large contingent of NCAA Division I athletes with a toss of 54.02 meters (177'-2.77").  The heave was an NCAA Division II National Championship provisional qualifying mark and eclipsed the previous Malone record of 174'-2.00" which was set by Justin Jump in 2009.

Taylor then had another strong showing on Saturday in the discus, finishing third among 43 competitors with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying heave of 50.83 meters (166-9).
