Kovanda, a sophomore defender from Marysville, Ohio (Marysville H.S.), delivered the game-winning goal on Friday as Malone clinched its first-ever GLIAC Tournament berth with a 1-0 Senior Day victory over rival Walsh University.
Kovanda's shot from 30 yards out sailed just over the keeper’s reach, hit off the bottom of the crossbar and bounced in to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead with 34 minutes left in regulation.
In addition to tallying the first game-winning goal of her career, Kovanda also played a huge role on defense Friday, helping record the shutout by blocking numerous shots over the final 10 minutes of the match.
