Matt Noel has been selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) North Division Baseball Player of the Week following his outstanding performance over a six-game stretch last week.
Â
Noel, a catcher from Tallmadge, Ohio, batted .588 with 10 hits, including four doubles, in 17 at bats as he helped Malone compile a 5-1 record. Last season's G-MAC batting champion collected four multi-hit games, six runs scored, and six RBI, including a walk-off RBI single in Malone's 3-2, extra-inning win over Findlay on Saturday.
Â
In three games against the Oilers, Noel hit .667 (8-for-12) to raise his average above .300 for the first time this season. On the year, he is now hitting .307 with 10 doubles and 22 RBI. In G-MAC games this spring, he is hitting .353 with a .443 OBP. A First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Midwest Region performer behind the plate a season ago, Noel has hit his stride at the right time as the Pioneers have won seven of their last nine games and are primed for a deep postseason run.
Â
Malone closes out the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against Lake Erie, highlighted by a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday. One win this weekend guarantees the Pioneers a spot in next week's G-MAC Championship tournament.
