Malone University senior righthander Joshua Hurford was selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) North Division Pitcher of the Week following another outstanding performance in a win over defending G-MAC Champion Kentucky Wesleyan College last Friday.
 
Hurford, of Sebring, Ohio (Sebring McKinley H.S.), pitched his second shutout of the season in 4-0 win over the G-MAC South Division preseason favorite. The 5'9" righty scattered just five hits (all singles) across the seven-inning victory and did not surrender a walk. Hurford finished with four strikeouts and retired each of the final 10 batters he faced.
 
With the win, Hurford improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his league-leading ERA to an impressive 0.71. Through four starts spanning 25.1 innings this season, he has given up just two earned runs while posting a 20:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He leads the conference with a 0.67 WHIP and a .169 batting average against.
 
The G-MAC Pitcher of the Week award is Hurford's third in the last two seasons.
