Malone University junior Joshua Hurford has been named the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Hurford, from Sebring, Ohio (Sebring McKinley H.S.), received the honor in recognition of his impressive performance this past Saturday (April 1) against Alderson Broaddus University.

Hurford tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in the second game of Malone's doubleheader sweep.  The right-hander struck out three with a walk accounting for ABU's only baserunner. 

The no-hitter, which Hurford completed with just 76 pitches, is believed to be Malone's first in at least the last 25 years and quite possibly the first in the history of the program.

The NCBWA Award comes in addition to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Honor that Hurford received earlier in the week.

On the season, Hurford has now tossed two complete-game shutouts.  He owns a 4-0 record and a stellar 0.65 earned run average.

The Pioneers will be back in action this weekend with a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference series vs. Kentucky Wesleyan College.
