Malone University freshman right-hander
Eric Mullet was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week after an outstanding outing against Grand View University last Friday at the Tucson Invitational.
Â
Mullet, a native of Berlin, Ohio (Hiland HS), dazzled in his first-career start, striking out eight while allowing just three hits and two walks over seven innings. Mullet had a no-hitter going through six full innings before giving up back-to-back singles to lead off the seventh. He bounced back to strike out the next batter but a costly error later in the inning would eventually lead to three unearned runs. The rookie hurler worked his way out of a jam with a punch-out to end the seventh inning en route to his first-career victory.
Â
Mullet, the 2016 OHSAA Division III Player of the Year, has yet to allow an earned since his sophomore year of high school. He has 10 Ks and zero unearned runs through 7.2 innings this season.
Â
Malone (3-3) is in the midst of an 11-game trip in Tucson, Arizona. The Pioneers are slated for a doubleheader Monday against Dakota Wesleyan.
