Veronica Gehring Earns Great Midwest Weekly Honor

Malone University junior outside hitter Veronica Gehring has been selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) East Division Volleyball Player of the Week after helping Malone to a pair of wins over Ursuline College and Lake Erie College this past weekend.

Gehring, a native of Walton Hills, Ohio (Cuyahoga Heights HS), led Malone with 24 kills across the two matches while committing just five attack errors and hitting .302. In a three-set win over Ursuline on Friday, Gehring hit .500 with seven kills on just 14 swings. She also added three blocks on the defensive side of the net as Malone earned its sixth consecutive victory.

Malone upped its winning streak to seven straight on Saturday in an important G-MAC East Division battle with Lake Erie. Gehring equaled career-highs with 17 kills and eight digs in the match while also adding two more blocks in the four-set victory. During the Pioneers' seven-match win streak, Gehring has landed a team-high 91 kills, including five matches with 15 or more. On the season, she leads Malone in both kills per set (2.84) and attacking percentage (.234).

Malone, now 12-4 overall on the season and 7-1 in conference, sits atop the G-MAC East Division standings in a two-way tie with Walsh. The Pioneers will travel to West Liberty on Tuesday, October 3rd for a non-conference match before facing G-MAC West foes Ohio Dominican and Cedarville in a pair of road matches this Friday and Saturday (October 6 & 7).
